bladder Problems? These Pelvic Floor Exercises Will Help You

There are about 25 million Americans who suffer from it.

Dr. David Glazier is co-director of the Pelvic Floor Centre in Richmond, and I quote him. “urinary incontinence happens very slowly and can be very bothersome; people have this notion that it’s all part of getting old.”

Fact is, it shouldn’t be. This condition does not only affect our senior citizens, it happens to people in other age groups too.

- Women before and after giving birth

- Competitors for extreme sports

- People going through a lot of stress

- People who have had a prolapse

There are a lot of medical procedures that your doctor can recommend but there is one easy way for you to treat it now. If you persevere over a few weeks with Pelvic Floor Exercises, you will definitely improve. I teach these exercises during Pilates sessions. I also suffered from bladder problems because of prolapse a few years back but there are no longer signs of it.

Your pelvic floor muscles resemble the shape of a sling and are located at the base of your torso, just below the abdomen. These muscles help in holding everything up. It’s no question why they get damaged overtime.

It’s best to do these pelvic floor exercises on your back, with knees bent.

- Take in a deep breath

- As you exhale you need to contract the pelvic floor by drawing in up into the body. This action MUST be done on the exhaled breath

- Tip for women : Draw up area around vagina

- Tip for men: (yes, men do have a pelvic floor), draw up the testicles

Please try these exercises, they’re so easy to do and much safer than a surgical procedure which currently has a 50% success rate. It really works!
