Liver Problems In Dogs

liver problems in dogs

Anyone have experience with Gall bladder disease and/or liver problems in dogs?

This is what my dog was diagnosed with at the vet today. He’s 14, lab/pointer mix. symptoms were lethargy, vomiting, no appetite, slight yellowing in the eyes.

So far he’s been treated with antibiotics, fluids (severe dehydration), and a anti-nausea. The liver problem is still undetermined at this point, but blood works shows there’s an issue. Ultrasound didn’t show anything abnormal with the liver.

Just curious if anyone has had experience with either of these things – and had thoughts, advice, suggestions, etc.

Your dog is reasonably old and often liver problem can creep up at this age. symptoms shown are typical of liver or gall bladder complaint. There could be reduced functioning of liver, which can be done a liver function test. Also it could be a block in the bile duct and the damming effect of bile flow leading to higher levels of bile in the blood

treatment is more of palliative as suggested by your vet.Reduce fat content in the food. There some commercial food available which is very low it fat, since bile secretions are important for fat digestion and absorption. Faces could be fowl smelling and sticky.
